This is a multi-barn laying complex used for research and teaching at California Polytechnic State University (Cal-Poly) located in San Luis Obispo, California. There are three barns in this complex, a pullet barn which has both cage free and caged system along with two laying barns, one with a cage free nest system and the other an enriched caged system.
All ventilation, barn controls and lighting are controlled by custom Ruby360 controls utilizing Opticon computers which also take care of automatic bin and bird weighing along with egg counting for the two laying barns.
